The Police - Live in Barcelona - 1st October, 1983

The Police were a band that my parents listened to in the 1980s, meaning they were a part of my childhood introduction to music...it could have been so much worse! As a solo artist Sting has since reached huge acclaim but as a member of The Police he was part of one of the biggest rock groups, particularly around the time when they released their fifth and final studio album 'Synchronicity'.

When it was released the band had seemingly said goodbye to the four previous albums' love ditties set to danceable Caribbean pop and new wave; in their place came 'chart-friendly drama' and 'rock star brooding', particularly in the record's three top-ten hits, "Wrapped Around Your Finger," "King of Pain," and the undeniable classic, "Every Breath You Take."

My personal favourites from the band were 'Tea in the Sahara', 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Every Little Thing She Does is Magic' but this performance in Barcelona - taken from their 'Synchronicity' tour - is a reasonable recording that captures the band at their peak. Download here and check the comments for the tracklisting. Enjoy!
